CALENDAR

BRCC will be offering an
educational methodology class for fire, rescue and EMS starting here
at BRCC in the Sink building. The class will be held in Sink 231 and
start at 0830. The class will meet on Tuesday mornings until May 13.

Blue Ridge Community College is proud to present all of the emergency medical classes as directed by the Office of Emergency Medical Services. Please review the certifications that are attached. We offer many certification and noncertification classes in Henderson and Transylvania counties. Some of the classes offered are Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, EMT-Intermediate, EMT –Paramedic, Basic Anatomy and Physiology, First Aid, CPR Bloodborne Pathogens and many Bio-Terrorism classes
Emergency Medical Technician Basic Class
Begins January 08, 2008 Ends May 20
The class will be held every Tuesday and Thursday
from 1800-2200 in Sink 231
Emergency Medical Technician - This course must follow the guidelines established by the NC Office of EMS. The curriculum for the EMT educational program shall be the 1994 release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic Course: National Standard Curriculum and the Supplemental Airways Modules for EMT-Basic; NSC. The EMT program must be conducted by an approved Basic or Advanced Educational Institution as defined in the rules of the North Carolina Medical Care Commission. In this course, the student will learn the basics of emergency medical care in the Prehospital environment. The student will be exposed to 160 hours of didactic and psychomotor skills. They also will be required to attend at least 20 hours of clinical experience. This class will prepare the student to operate in the prehospital environment with or without an affiliation to an emergency provider.
Student prerequisites: High school diploma or general education development (GED); and successful completion of an entrance exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum at the tenth grade level.
